Mexican Hot Chocolate Cocoa Dusted Almonds

It’s about time we discussed Valentine’s Day!  Grab your chocolate.

Honestly, I don’t care that this is a holiday designed to promote consumerism and concoct romance where perhaps none exists.  I’m still enamored with it, and my unapologetically girly side is infatuated with every pink and red cookie recipe and DIY craft on Pinterest.

My Mom’s Chicken Salad

Recipes from your mom and your childhood have a special place in the recipe box.  For starters, in my case they actually exist physically in a recipe box unlike a lot of my other recipes that are scattered around in various places like cookbooks and websites that I can only find through Pinterest if I could just remember which board they’re posted on.

My mom’s chicken salad has been one of my favorite foods for as long as I can remember.

Homemade Energy Bars

Have you noticed that the term “energy bars,” is just a nice way to say “high calorie treats?”  Well, it is.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t love them. I just think of them as slightly healthier cookies.  And conveniently, if you happen to really need to squeeze more calories into your diet, they’re an efficient way to do just that.

All natural peanut butter, honey, oat, and coconut make these vegan treats addicting little rewards.

Eggnog French Toast

So… Remember that eggnog?  If we’re being completely honest, I have to tell you that some if it is still in my refrigerator.  Sure, by now I’m leaning towards throwing the rest of it away, but I should also confess that I’m unreasonably trusting when it comes to the possibility of contracting a food-borne illness, and not all that long ago, I used some of it (yes some of the same batch I made in December with raw eggs) to make Eggnog French Toast.

Sweet Potato Fries

So… It’s January.  As everyone knows, that means we’re supposed to pretend that we’re going to make sudden and major sweeping changes to become all-around better human beings.  If you have decent friends, they’ll pretend that they believe these changes to be real and sustainable, and then in February they will tactfully “forget” that we ever made these commitments.  So anyways, I’m going to follow protocol and eat something healthy.  Hence, Sweet Potato Fries!

Potato Bread

Few things make me as happy as bread.  I suppose that bread is worth making in and of itself, but in this particular instance I required some bread to be part of another recipe.

Potato Bread | www.thebahamallama.wordpress.com

I was enjoying a ritualistic and obsessive flip through all my past December issues of Food Network magazine (which I hoard), and I found a breakfast casserole (here) that I reallllly wanted to make.  Ingredients added to shopping list – check!  I arrived at the grocery store and began crossing items off my list, but I was striking out on the potato bread. So I figured I could grab a potato and make some when I got home.
